Wesselburenerkoog · Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
Wesselburenerkoog lies directly at the Eider Barrage, which protects the Eider region from flooding. Wesselburenerkoog belongs to the district of Dithmarschen. The surroundings are characterized by green meadows and dikes. As is usual in this region, the dog beach itself does not consist of sand but of grass. The dog beach is free to use. The dog beach is a rather small fenced-off area with a nice grassy surface. Toward the water or the mudflats (depending on the tides) there is a groyne made of piled-up stones. Unfortunately, because of this, the dog beach offers no direct access to the water. Dog and owner would have to climb over the stones, which could be a problem for some. The access via stairs to the water/mudflats is unfortunately in the beach section where dogs are prohibited. This somewhat remote dog beach is not particularly busy. A bistro with restrooms is located right at the parking lot. | Parking: approx. 300 meters | Beach fee person/dog: Yes/No | Beach/water condition: grass/mudflats | Restrooms available: Yes | Food and drink: Yes | Wi-Fi on the beach: Unknown
In busy areas of Schleswig-Holstein, dogs must be leashed. In forests, dogs may only be taken along on a leash and on forest paths, year-round. On beaches with lots of bathers, dogs are banned from 1 April to 31 October except on designated dog beaches; municipalities may set different rules. Violations can be fined.
This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
