Vollerwiek · Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
The Vollerwiek dog beach is located on the outer dike of Vollerwiek and is a green dog beach. The green area is divided into a dog beach and a family beach. This means it is a large grassy area on the outer dike. Access to the mudflats is via a staircase. Since this beach is on the mudflats, whether there is water depends on the tides on the Eiderstedt peninsula. In summer, this dog beach is also a good alternative to the beaches of St. Peter-Ording. From the dog beach you have a view of the Eider Barrage. The Eider flows inland to Tönning. For an outing, the small harbor there is a recommended place to visit. St. Peter-Ording and Tönning are both about 15 km away by car. Free parking is available for visitors. However, use of the green beach requires a fee. For refreshments, there is a snack bar on the dike. In addition, the green beach also offers restrooms and showers. During the main season from June to mid-September, there is a DLRG lifeguard station in this beach area. As almost everywhere on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast, unfortunately a leash requirement also applies at the Vollerwiek dog beach, on the dike, and in the adjacent mudflats. If you want to let your dog run off leash, you can do so in Tönning or St. Peter-Ording. There are various “dog off-leash areas” there. The nearest dog beaches are the Wesselburenerkoog dog beach and the dog beaches of St. Peter-Ording. | Parking: approx. 500 meters | Leash required on the beach: Yes
In busy areas of Schleswig-Holstein, dogs must be leashed. In forests, dogs may only be taken along on a leash and on forest paths, year-round. On beaches with lots of bathers, dogs are banned from 1 April to 31 October except on designated dog beaches; municipalities may set different rules. Violations can be fined.
This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
