Karlshagen · Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany
Karlshagen is a seaside resort on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is located in the north of the island between Trassenheide and Peenemünde. Karlshagen was founded in the early 19th century as a fishing colony. The seaside resort has a wonderful 80 m wide white sandy beach. The resort is especially popular with families with small children, as the sea water is very shallow for the first hundred 100 m and is nicely warmed by the sun. The Karlshagen dog beach is located at the supervised swimming beach. You will find the beach between beach sections 10L and 10K. A leash requirement applies in the entire Baltic resort, including at the dog beach. Restrooms are nearby, and a parking lot is about 400 meters from the dog beach. Using the beach in Karlshagen requires a fee. You pay a beach usage fee for yourself and then again for your four-legged companions. | Parking: approx. 400 meters | Beach fee person/dog: Yes/Yes | Beach/water condition: sandy beach/shallow water | Restrooms available: Yes | Food and drink: Yes | Leash required on the beach: Yes
Leashes are required statewide at public events such as fairs, in shops and zoos, and anywhere you cannot easily avoid other people. Forests: leash required year-round. Cities and municipalities may set stricter rules; on buses and trains the transport operator's terms apply.
This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
