Friedrichskoog · Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
The dog beach is located at the tip of a peninsula not far from the mouth of the Elbe. The beach area is divided into sections, and the dog beach lies in front of the natural beach. There is a family beach with dogs as well as a “regular” dog beach. As almost everywhere on the North Sea coast in Schleswig-Holstein, the dog beach is separated from the hinterland by a dike. Hundestrand Friedrichskoog is a grass beach and lies on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park. There are various access points to the sea or mudflats. How much water there is depends on the tides. In Friedrichskoog too, your dogs must be kept on a leash on the beach, in the mudflats and on the dikes. This rule applies to almost all beaches on the North Sea coast in Germany. The dog beach offers everything you need, such as restrooms and beach showers. The dog beach is clean, but in overall appearance it cannot quite keep up with the dog beaches around Büsum. Near the dog beach there are a parking lot and a motorhome parking area. In addition to the many vacation homes and apartments with dogs in Friedrichskoog, there are two campgrounds not far from the beach. | Parking: approx. 500 meters | Beach fee person/dog: Yes/No | Beach/water conditions: grass/mudflats | Restrooms available: Yes | Dining: Yes | Wi-Fi on beach: Unknown | Leash required on beach: Yes
In busy areas of Schleswig-Holstein, dogs must be leashed. In forests, dogs may only be taken along on a leash and on forest paths, year-round. On beaches with lots of bathers, dogs are banned from 1 April to 31 October except on designated dog beaches; municipalities may set different rules. Violations can be fined.
This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
