Büsum · Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
The Büsum Südstrand dog beach is very centrally located at the fishing harbor of Büsum. That is a little south of the main beach near the storm surge barrier. It is a green beach on the dike. A very big restriction, however, is that your dog has to stay on the dog beach if you want to go into the water or mudflats. Your dogs are not allowed into the mudflats here! If you just want to soak up a little sun, beach chairs are also available at the dog beach during the main season. Sanitary facilities are located a bit farther toward the tourist information office. If you want to go for a walk with your dog, this is possible along the entire dike crest, about 3.5 kilometers long. Of course, the dog must be on a leash here. From October 1 to March 31, you may also walk with your dog (on a leash) by the water on the dike promenade. Dogs may not be taken to any other beach sections. Other dog beaches are located in Büsum above the family lagoon Perlebucht and in Büsumer Deichhausen. | Parking: approx. 700 meters | Beach fee person/dog: Yes/Yes
In busy areas of Schleswig-Holstein, dogs must be leashed. In forests, dogs may only be taken along on a leash and on forest paths, year-round. On beaches with lots of bathers, dogs are banned from 1 April to 31 October except on designated dog beaches; municipalities may set different rules. Violations can be fined.
This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
