Dog Beaches in Heringsdorf, Bansin, and Ahlbeck

Heringsdorf · Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany

Description

Heringsdorf is a seaside resort on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It is located in the east of the island with a view of Poland. Together with the neighboring seaside resorts of Ahlbeck and Bansin, Heringsdorf forms the “Three Emperors' Spas” (Dreikaiserbäder), because the German high nobility used to like to spend their vacations in these places. As early as the beginning of the 19th century, Heringsdorf was the most popular of the three vacation resorts. In 2005, the three seaside resorts merged to form the municipality of Heringsdorf. The beach promenade of Heringsdorf leads across the three resorts all the way to the Polish seaside resort of Swinoujscie (Swinemünde) and is thus 42 km long in total. Unfortunately, a leash requirement applies all year round at the Bansin, Ahlbeck and Heringsdorf dog beach as well as in the towns. From October 1 to the end of April, you may also enter the other beach sections with your four-legged friends (on a leash). In season, you can rent beach chairs at the dog beaches.

Breeding & nesting season (orientation)

Leashes are required statewide at public events such as fairs, in shops and zoos, and anywhere you cannot easily avoid other people. Forests: leash required year-round. Cities and municipalities may set stricter rules; on buses and trains the transport operator's terms apply.

This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
