Wangerland · Niedersachsen, Germany
The Hundestrand Schillig is located at the northern tip of the village of Schillig, which belongs to the municipality of Wangerland and is part of the district of Horumersiel-Schillig. The village lies directly on the Jade shipping channel to Wilhelmshaven. Schillig is approx. 20 kilometers north of Wilhelmshaven. A special feature is the yellow former lighthouse in Schillig. The village of Schillig is also popular and well known for its so-called maritime stimulating climate. Parking in the village is very limited, and you should use the large parking lot near the campground. The parking lot charges a fee. From there, it is a few hundred meters to the Hundestrand Schillig. The Hundestrand Schillig offers visitors a wide sandy beach, but it can only be used to a limited extent, since dogs must be kept on a leash. Unfortunately, there are not many alternatives on the Lower Saxony North Sea coast, since the Wadden Sea is to be protected almost everywhere. Otherwise, the Hundestrand Schillig is very natural and unspoiled. Unfortunately, dogs also have to pay a beach fee. Schillig is considered a very well-developed tourist destination. Various shopping options are available. Besides the large number of vacation apartments and holiday homes in Schillig, the campground "Nordseecamping Schillig" is located right by the sea. It is one of the oldest and largest campgrounds in Germany. The site also has pitches for visitors with dogs. These must be booked in advance. Should the weather on the coast not quite cooperate, you can visit the Friesland-Therme or a saltwater indoor pool. For families with children, there are a few play houses in the surrounding area, or there are other options for sporting activities (horseback riding, water skiing, etc.). Other beaches nearby are the Hundestrand Hooksiel and the Hundestrand Carolinensiel-Harlesiel. | Parking: approx. 400 meters | Beach fee person/dog: Yes/Yes | Beach/water conditions: Sandy beach/Wadden Sea mudflats | Restrooms available: Yes | Food service: Yes | Leash required on the beach: Yes
