Dog Beach on the Island of Poel

Kirchdorf · Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany

Description

The island of Poel is located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Wismar Bay and is the seventh-largest island in Germany. The island of Poel can be reached from the mainland via a drivable causeway. The island of Poel offers you a total of four dog beaches. These are fine sandy beaches with shallow water. Those are actually good conditions for a visit to the dog beaches with your dog. Unfortunately, there is a restriction on use. From May 1 to the end of September, your dog must be on a leash on the dog beaches. Outside this period, your dog may run off leash on the dog beach. In addition, a year-round leash requirement applies in all districts and on various footpaths and bike paths. | Parking: approx. 800 meters | Beach fee person/dog: Yes/Yes | Beach/water type: Sandy beach/very shallow water | Restrooms available: Yes | Dining: Yes | Leash required on beach: Yes (May 1 to September 30)

Breeding & nesting season (orientation)

Leashes are required statewide at public events such as fairs, in shops and zoos, and anywhere you cannot easily avoid other people. Forests: leash required year-round. Cities and municipalities may set stricter rules; on buses and trains the transport operator's terms apply.

This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
