Porus® One contains the ingredient Renaltec®, a physically active selective adsorbent for uremic precursors in the intestine.
What are uremic toxins?

As obligate carnivores, cats rely on protein as a source of energy. Protein metabolism produces a large number of waste products that the cat's body cannot utilize and must therefore excrete, usually via the kidneys. This produces uremic toxins such as indoxyl sulfate and para-cresyl sulfate. The amino acids contained in the feed proteins are broken down in the intestine by intestinal bacteria. This continuously produces the precursors of uremic toxins. The essential amino acid tryptophan is converted by intestinal bacteria into indole, a precursor of indoxyl sulfate. Indole is absorbed and only converted into indoxyl sulfate in the liver, which is then excreted by the kidneys.
What affects cats' kidneys: uremic toxins

Indoxyl sulfate is known to cause direct kidney damage and clinical symptoms when it accumulates in the blood, e.g., in the case of delayed or insufficient excretion via the kidneys.
