Sahlenburg Dog Beach

Cuxhaven · Niedersachsen, Germany

Description

Sahlenburg lies on the Lower Saxony North Sea coast near Cuxhaven. The resort, considered family-friendly, is very popular with dog owners because there is a dog beach on the Wadden Sea. In the area around the beach there are two large campgrounds. From Sahlenburg you can take horse-drawn carriages to the island of Neuwerk. The Sahlenburg dog beach is located in the southern part of Sahlenburg. Nearby are the surf school and the kite beach. For the municipality of Cuxhaven, to which the Sahlenburg dog beach also belongs, a leash is required on the dikes, in the foreland of the dikes, at the dog beach and in the mudflats. Dogs may go only to the designated beaches, on a leash. On other beaches, dogs (even on a leash) are prohibited during peak season. You can find a precise overview of what is allowed on our overview page Cuxhaven with dog. A large parking lot with a fee is located about 700 meters from the dog beach. Besides various food and drink options near the dog beach, public restrooms and showers for people and dogs are also available. In season, beach chairs can be rented at the Sahlenburg dog beach. Visitors describe the dog beach online as clean, but also as too small, and the leash requirement is of course rightly criticized. Nearby are also the Dorum-Neufeld dog beach and the Altenbruch dog beach. | Parking: approx. 700 meters | Beach fee person/dog: Yes/No | Beach/water type: Sandy beach/Mudflats | Restrooms available: Yes | Food and drink: Yes | Leash required on beach: Yes

This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
