Rostock Diedrichshagen · Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany
The best-known dog beach near Rostock is the Rostock Diedrichshagen dog beach. The seaside resort of Diedrichshagen belongs to Rostock and is located next to the Baltic Sea resort of Warnemünde. The beach is mentioned again and again as a tip, because despite being close to the city, it is relatively quiet there. The water is shallow and therefore also suitable for small dogs and children. Since it is a natural beach, there may be stones and algae. The water can also be stony, so you may want to think about bringing water shoes. You will find the Diedrichshagen dog beach between beach access points 27 – 31 and 36 – 38. A parking lot is about 500 meters from the dog beach. There you will also find a public restroom. Directly at the dog beach there are no food and drink options. A bit farther away there is a snack bar. Visitors describe the dog beach online as a beautiful sandy beach with a dreamy view of the Baltic Sea. Some visitors note the stones negatively, but these are naturally present on a natural beach. Outside of the season (October to April), your dogs are also allowed on the other beach sections. | Parking: approx. 500 meters | Beach fee person/dog: Yes/No | Beach/water type: sand with stones/shallow water | Restrooms available: Yes | Food and drink: (Yes) | Leash required on beach: No
Leashes are required statewide at public events such as fairs, in shops and zoos, and anywhere you cannot easily avoid other people. Forests: leash required year-round. Cities and municipalities may set stricter rules; on buses and trains the transport operator's terms apply.
This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
