Kiel · Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
The Olympiawiese in Schilksee, Kiel, is a dog park that is open 24 hours a day. It is not fenced in and is located along the heavily trafficked Fördestraße, which poses a safety risk. The area is characterized by tall grass and overgrown vegetation, which makes it difficult for dogs to use. There are no amenities such as poop bags or parking. Users consider the field inadequate for the safety and well-being of dogs.
In busy areas of Schleswig-Holstein, dogs must be leashed. In forests, dogs may only be taken along on a leash and on forest paths, year-round. On beaches with lots of bathers, dogs are banned from 1 April to 31 October except on designated dog beaches; municipalities may set different rules. Violations can be fined.
This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
