Heiligenhafen · Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
The town of Heiligenhafen lies directly opposite the island of Fehmarn and, with the Warder, has a peninsula extending out in front of it. The Heiligenhafen dog beach is located east of the DLRG station. Special signs have been put up to help you find the beach. On this spacious and wide dog beach, your dogs are of course allowed to romp around off leash. The dog beach is a sandy beach, and the water is not too deep, as is typical for the Baltic Sea. Visitors describe the Heiligenhafen dog beach as a clean and large sandy beach that is absolutely recommended. At the Heiligenhafen dog beach, you can even rent beach chairs, which is often not possible at other beaches. Outside the main season (November 1 to March 31), you may also take your dog to the other beach areas of the Baltic Sea coast. For a little refreshment, there is a snack bar near the beach. You can find a large parking lot about 500 meters from the dog beach. The nearest beaches are the Weißenhäuser Strand dog beach and, toward Fehmarn, the Großenbrode Weststrand dog beach. | Parking: approx. 500 meters | Beach fee person/dog: Yes/Unknown | Beach/water condition: sandy beach/shallow water | Restrooms available: Yes | Food and drink: Yes | Wi-Fi on the beach: Unknown | Leash required on the beach: No
In busy areas of Schleswig-Holstein, dogs must be leashed. In forests, dogs may only be taken along on a leash and on forest paths, year-round. On beaches with lots of bathers, dogs are banned from 1 April to 31 October except on designated dog beaches; municipalities may set different rules. Violations can be fined.
This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
