Dog meadow Gotha

Breeding & nesting season (orientation)

In Thuringia, dogs must be kept on a leash in forests year-round (Section 6(2) of the state forest act); hunting dogs on duty are exempt. Outside forests, municipalities may have their own rules. Follow signs and local bylaws.

This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
