Dog meadow Braunshardt

Breeding & nesting season (orientation)

In Hesse, dogs must be leashed at events with crowds, in restaurants and on public transport. There is no statewide leash rule for forests or the breeding season, but many municipalities impose one, often from March to the end of June or mid-July. Check locally.

This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
