Hohenwestedt · Schleswig-Holstein, Germany
The “Am Freibad” dog park in Hohenwestedt is open 24 hours a day and is fenced in. It provides poop bags for dog owners, various play structures, and a water fountain. The park is maintained by volunteers and is clean. Users appreciate the opportunity to play and train with their dogs. However, the area is small and may not be sufficient for everyone’s needs.
In busy areas of Schleswig-Holstein, dogs must be leashed. In forests, dogs may only be taken along on a leash and on forest paths, year-round. On beaches with lots of bathers, dogs are banned from 1 April to 31 October except on designated dog beaches; municipalities may set different rules. Violations can be fined.
This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
