Hamburg · Hamburg, Germany
The dog park on the Alster in Hamburg-Wandsbek is open 24 hours a day. It offers shade, but there is no fence or poop bags. There is no parking available. Access to the water is restricted, and there are large holes in the grass that could pose a risk of injury to dogs. Despite these shortcomings, the area is described as beautiful and is considered a good place for dogs.
In Hamburg, a leash is required almost everywhere, including forests. Off-leash is only allowed in designated dog exercise areas or with an exemption from the leash rule, but in forests the leash rule applies even then. In some nature reserves, dogs are banned entirely. Follow the signs.
This is a simplified overview, not legal advice. For binding rules in 2026 where you live and walk your dog, contact your local authority (e.g. municipal public order office).
